There is also new high tech glasses made by google that can take hands free photos and is basically a hands free computer that you would wear as glasses. The google glasses could replace your smartphone. New technology like these relate to the times of the civil war because during the civil war there was a new type of machine that they used to separate cotton and it was called the cotton gin. The cotton gin was mostly used by the South because that is what the South used for trading goods and clothes and other ways to make money. This new machine made the process of separating cotton 3 times faster which raised the cotton production. Like the new iPhone and other smartphones, the cotton gin made the life in the South a lot easier.
