      http://abcnews.go.com/Health/wireStory/church-england-ordain-female-bishop-28481241

On Monday, the Church of England consecrated their first female bishop, Reverend Libby Lane. During the service, the congregation was asked if they wanted her to be let in. While many said yes, there was one no, coming from Reverend Paul Williamson. He said that the Bible, there was no precedent for female bishops. Libby Lane remained calm, and the protester was ignored. Everyone said "Yes" a second time, and all of the other bishops laid their hands on her, and prayed for her. This was the first time for a woman to become a bishop, even though over 20 years ago, the Church started to let women become priests.
This relates to the past because it demonstrates how much women's rights have changed. Before the Civil War, women had little rights. At a certain time, women weren't even allowed to own land. Women weren't allowed to vote until the 1920s. Libby Lane getting consecrated shows how much rights women have gained over the years. She was the first woman who was given the right to become a bishop. That is a huge movement in the Church of England for women. She shows how far women's rights have grew from the past to today, from barely being able to do anything besides household work, to becoming important figures of a church. Because of her consecration, women's rights have reached a new height, and can only grow from now on.

The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists have moved the doomsday clock 2 minutes closer to midnight making it 11:57. This is not a literal clock but a clock that represents how close we are to destroying the world. Original used to represent how close we are to nuclear Armageddon; it is now also used to represent growing issues such as climate change and the dangers of Bio and cyber technologies. The lowest the clock has been, since its creation in 1947 is 17 minutes from midnight after the fall of the Soviet Union. The closest it has been is 2 minutes from midnight when the Cold War was still a major issue. The Science and Security Board of the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists are in charge of changing the time on the doomsday clock.
The doomsday clock can be connected to the revolutionary and the Civil War. While the doomsday clock came around due to the increase of nuclear weapons, the revolutionary and civil war were both fought with guns and cannons. The Civil War saw the creation of a new bullet called the Minie ball which improved the damage done by a single soldier. It also took less time to load and shot compared to the older bullets that were used before. The Revolutionary war saw a conflict between The United States and England which is similar to the nuclear arms race between countries including the aforementioned as well as China France, Israel, India, Pakistan, and North Korea. The doomsday clock remains to be an issue since these countries show no sign of slowing or canceling their nuclear weapons program.

    http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/jan/27/new-england-bears-brunt-snowstorm-thousands-without-power

With predictions of two feet of snow and high winds, people among the northeastern border of the US bunkered down on Monday night the 26th of January, 2015. The snowstorm later confirmed a blizzard threatened the lives of over 50 million people in its path. As winds in some more coastal areas reached speeds of 75 miles per hour it was evident that this was going to be a storm to remember. For some people it meant losing their homes. Many northern states shut down road access and electric companies apologized in advance knowing this downfall had high risk of power outage. With the high winds combined with the snow, many roofs caved in and power was lost. Many people directly on the coast were told to leave their houses and stay in specific shelters. This storm relates directly to one specific historical event and that is the Donner Party of 1846.
The Donner Party of 1846 is a great example of crippling snow. As the Donner Party of 89 emigrants moved south they faced one major opponent, Mother Nature. With a heavy snowfall on October 28th the group of emigrants was trapped in an icy frozen wilderness. Unable to continue similar to the blizzard of 2015 they were forced to stop travel and hide from the weather. Just as all the buses, trains, and flights on January the 27th were stopped so were the 20 wagons of the Donner Party. With the attenuating snow stopping both time periods it is shown quite clearly the effects of Mother Nature on human life. As the Donner Party resorted to cannibalism the people of the North resorted to eating away at their wallets with a predicted $1 billion dollar impact on the United States economy. In conclusion, we can see the debilitating effects of the weather all over the place whether you are looking at history or today.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-switch/wp/2015/01/28/bill-gates-on-dangers-of-artificial-intelligence-dont-understand-why-some-people-are-not-concerned/

During a recent "AMA" (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit, a session where people get to ask the specific user (in this case Bill Gates) an question, Mr. Gates expressed his concern about artificial intelligence or "AI". On Reddit Mr. Gates wrote: "I am in the camp that is concerned about super intelligence. First the machines will do a lot of jobs for us and not be super intelligent. That should be positive if we manage it well." He fears that AI will become a form of 'super intelligence' and could possibly end the human race. Bill himself is a huge enthusiast of AI research. He himself wanted to go in AI research "had Microsoft not worked out" he said. The fact that robots of more simple AI's can preform tasks for humans is incredible to him, he is by no means trying to get rid of AI overall. AI is an amazing technology, Bill Gates only fears of its endless possibilities backfiring on the human race.
Bill gates wants to limit the power of AI, not eliminate it. This is how the writers and signers of the Constitution felt about government. The Constitution was made to fix the flaws of the Articles of Confederation, this included limiting the power of the government without elimination all of its power. Bill Gates wants to prevent AI from destroying the human race, making them better, less dangerous, and help give people what they want. The Constitution was made to prevent the government from having too much control, make it work better, and also gave the citizens of the USA what they wanted. In conclusion, Bill Gates is trying to prevent AI from destroying the world, similar to how the Constitution wanted to limit the power of the government.

    http://nypost.com/2015/01/26/nfl-pegs-patriots-ballboy-as-prime-suspect-in-deflategate/
As new evidence continues to flow in it looks more and more apparent that deflate gate is all true. The New England Patriots faced off against the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC championships a couple weeks back. Despite a blowout 45-7 win, there is much controversy about if the footballs were deflated. The name deflate gate is tied back to spy gate a previous cheating scandal by the patriots where they recorded the other team’s defensive signals. Since then they haven’t been able to get their name clean. A poll done reports that an astonishing 41 percent of people thought the Patriots cheated while the other 27 did not. More stats show that the patriots had an average 42 touches per fumble from 2000-2006. After pushing for a rule change stats show the Patriots now have an astonishing rate of 74 touches per fumble the best in the NFL. The real evidence however is the locker room attendant for the patriots. He was found on security cameras going into the bathroom with the balls for about 90 seconds. Professionals say this is enough time to deflate all of the balls.
All of this evidence would mean that even though a blow out in the playoffs the Colts would have never had a fair chance. If they practiced the whole week with non-deflated balls they would not be ready for the change. Even if it would not have changed the outcome the Colts never got a fair shake. In history, this could be similar to how slaves were treated. Nobody ever gave them a chance no matter what. People lied about them, insulted them, and never gave those equal rights or the opportunity to vote. The Colts and the slaves shared many characteristics and neither got a chance to prove themselves.

“American Sniper”, a movie recently released in theatres has started a crazy online war. There are those who watch and determine the movie not only as racist, but as disgusting and a full propaganda. Critics of the film see this movie as only showing the worst of Iraq, not taking into account that there are normal, regular people that live in this country, and only showing a place full of crazy extremists. Others see this film as an insight on war, and how dangerous it is, how utterly horrifying it is. They see this as a message on how war truly is, teaching us exactly how an average American, taught in the ways of war, holds up when actually faced with one. People point out that the portrayal of Iraq citizens is completely generalized, showing them all as extremists of a religion, and terrorists born and bred. And yet there are those who argue that the horror stories that have made their way to the U.S. must have come from somewhere. Opinions and Emotions run high as the opposing appraisals of this film meet head to head, fighting to determine what exactly the film was portraying.
This reminds me heavily of the Native Americans and how they were portrayed and treated in the early days of America. Treated poorly by most, and with none attempting to truly lend a hand to their aid, there was nobody to defend the idea that they were people too. In this day and age, however, there are obviously those willing to come to the defense of nations and over-generalized people under fire. Yet, with different ways, and different customs, much like the Native Americans generations ago, it is questioned on how much of the population actually falls in with how they are portrayed. Nonetheless, this movie sparks a thought that lines up with the other notions of Native Americans back in the 1700’s, but this time, there are firm defenders on both sides.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/marshawn-lynch-faces-fine-super-bowl-media-day-hat-article-1.2094951

The articles are about how Marshawn Lynch, the running back for the Seattle Seahawks was fined 50,000 for not talking to the media. Now Lynch often answers every media question withe the same answer. This year the Seahawks made it to the Superbowl, so on Tuesday at media day Lynch stayed for the minimum required 5 minutes and answered every question with “I’m just here so I won't get fined.” However Marshawn Lynch is no stranger to fines. He has been fined a total of 31,500 for inappropriate celebrations. He was fined 100,000 for not showing up to media day last year, and 50,000 for refusing to talk to the media during the regular season. Also the NFL threatened to fine him 500,000 dollars if he didn't show up this year.
This is similar to what went on in the United States during the early stages of the revolution.revolution. Marshawn Lynch is protesting a rule that he finds is an invasion of privacy and just overall unfair. This is what the colonies were doing when they believed that what the British were doing was unfair. So the colonies decided they would boycott local British run businesses and did not buy British products.Eventually it led to war, hopefully it doesn't lead to that in the case of Marshawn Lynch. But if it does, then maybe Marshawn will win like the United States did.
